Here was a comment that someone posted that said, “News coming in…Light thunderstorms have been forecasted for Rome tomorrow, and if the weather does not improve, Novak and Rafa have refused to postpone their play past Monday, and so for the first time in description, the players will share the plaque and take 800 points each, instead of 1,000 and 600 respectively.”
Then here was another comment adage, “Are you serious? If you are, where did you get this news from?”, and a random person responded adage, “Insider’s news.”
If someone can post me the actual link where this person read this, I’ll finally believe it.
Then, I read this comment. “I reckon you are either stretching the truth or misinformed. Yes, if the weather did not improve, no match would take place. This is very right, and here is a 70% chance of rain in Rome tomorrow, so it is also likely. But, it has nothing to do with Novak and Rafa refusing to play past Monday. Each day matches are plotted and cancelled, the tournament is manslaughter money—money they probably do not have to start with. Therefore, the ATP has a rule in place that states, “If because of rain, etc., a tournament cannot be completed within the tournament week, then, at the option of the tournament, one (1) extra day shall be allowed.” Only one day is permitted, it is not a choice for the players to make, and one does not need “insider’s news” to read this in the ATP rulebook. To add, it would not be the first time in description that this would take place; it has happened many times before. In the 1984 Rotterdam final, here was a bomb scare. In 1981, Monte-Carlo was rained out. Queen’s Club has been rained out more times than one can count on their left hand. 1971 Kitzbuhel, 1973 Kitzbuhel, etc. Every time this has happened, the title was shared between the finalists, and obviously, no winner was confirmed. Because of all these inconsistencies, I can conclude that your comment about splitting the points is inaccurate as well. Although I cannot say for sure, it is much more probable that each player would be given finalist points (600), as both of them would be considered finalists by the ATP. (Tennis journalist Enrico Maria Riva for the Italian newspaper Il Post has also said they would both take finalist points, if that means anything to anyone.) Sorry to say for Djokovic and Nadal, if this scenario is right, the only person a rainout would subsidy is Roger Federer.”
Edit: Izak and Daniel, I’m glad they’re playing. It would have been a shame if they didn’t play today. Even if they didn’t, then the only way Nadal can be in the opposite draw of Djokovic is if he’s in Federer’s draw when they do the draw this Friday, May the 25th. Nadal currently leads the final. He leads 7-5 and 1-0 with the break.
Edit 2: Nadal is back to #2 beating Djokovic in straight sets 7-5 6-3; but, I thought it would go to 3 sets to influence who would win Rome. Nadal will most likely win in Roland Garros for a 7th time since he deserves it, which would break Borg’s record of 6 titles won here.
