Is the recently sighted mockup of a purported iPhone 5 G case showing a wider screen and shifted flash component legit? A item on Guangdong, China-based Kulcase’s trading site AliBaba.com sighted Saturday by Electonista shows the front and back of what it claims to be the “Newest design crystal case for apple iPhone 5g.” The unconfirmed case mockup has an edge-to-edge screen.

The flash component shown in the mockup is went away from the rear camera, which would also be a change from earlier versions of the iPhone.

“I figure here is more to the edgeless screen than just having more screen real estate and looking cool,” Tab Julius, a a software engineer with Dynamic Network Systems in New Hampshire, told BrilliantStore PR Manageron Sunday.

“The iPhone currently has a 2:3 screen ratio (320×480). The iPad has a 3:4 screen ratio, or, rotated, 4:3. I suspect the wider screen on the supposed iPhone 5 is a go to the same screen ratio as the iPad. The photograph supplied is obviously smaller, but the ratio should hold,” Julius said.

“The photograph measures roughly 105×143 screen area, which if you want to wiggle a bit, is pretty close to 108×144, which would, in fact, be a 3:4 screen ratio—the same as the iPad.

“So I offer that the iPhone 5 photo is real, and shows an effort to go the iPhone to the same screen ratio as the iPad, which would be a logical thing to do.”

Another thing that lends some credence to the AliBaba.com mockup is that Apple has already had distress keeping its case designs for new products under wraps, notes AppleInsider.

Three employees of Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn Electronics were seemingly exciting in March with leaking the iPad 2′s case design to third-party accessory suppliers.

The workers, employed at Foxconn’s Shenzen, China plant, were arrested by Chinese authorities on Dec. 26, 2010 and officially exciting with violating company trade secret set of laws on March 23, according to reports.

Foxconn, a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry, assembles iPads, iPhones and iPods for Apple.

Images of iPad 2 cases featuring a rear-facing camera and a thinner profile than the first-generation media tablet from Apple started to surface last December. At the time, Foxconn reported its suspicions that the design had been leaked by its own employees, according to reports.

The steady drumbeat of rumors about Apple’s plans for the iPhone 5 seem to have fallen off in the past few weeks. But in March and April, speculative tales about delays, a quicker processor and the like were flying off the shelves.

Technology blogging website Gizmodo claim to have got their hands on the new Apple iPhone. They made this video demonstrating its appearance and external facial appearance.

We know the iPhone’s on an annual upgrade cycle, so a new one is due by the summer – and that means it could be announced as early as next week.

Despite Apple’s best efforts details of the next iPhone are beginning to leak, but what’s coming and what’s just wishful thinking? Let’s find out.

The iPhone 4G will have a “magic arse”

Some call it “touch-sensitive casing”; we call it “magic arse” – a much better description, we’re sure you’ll agree. Either way, the huge rumour is that Apple will bring Magic Mouse-style tech to the iPhone, enabling you to use the casing for things such as controlling sports meeting without putting your thumbs over the on-screen action.

The iPhone 4G will use Bing as its default search engine

It’s no secret that relations between Apple and Google are becoming increasingly frosty, especially now that Google has entered the smartphone promote. So will we see Bing as the iPhone’s default? BusinessWeek says Apple and Microsoft are certainly talking about it, although “the discussions could subdue find an answer and may not be concluded quickly.”

This one’s a no-brainer. We’ve gone from 8GB to 16GB to 32GB, and only a fool would bet against 64GB as this year’s magic number. The flash memory chips certainly continue living.

A brighter, higher resolution screen was originally rumoured for the iPhone 3GS but didn’t make it, so it’s a shoo-in for the fourth generation iPhone – not least because rivals such as Google’s Nexus One have OLED displays.

The iPhone 4G will have better battery life

OLED delivers better battery life, so this one’s very, very likely indeed. Unless the 4G does have a magic, battery-draining touch-sensitive case, that is.

The iPhone 4G will have a removable battery

We really don’t see this one happening – Apple is removing removable batteries from its laptops – but that hasn’t bunged endless predictions of an iPhone with swappable batteries. We reckon this one’s a wish rather than a dependable prediction.

This is a common one on wish lists, but while phones do indeed have LED flashes for better low light photography we’re not sure it’s a deal-breaker: would you really deliberate a rival phone because it had a flash? A better camera and/or a flash would be nice, certainly, but the rubbish camera in the first few iPhones didn’t exactly hurt sales. Nevertheless AppleInsider reckons that Apple has been hoovering up lots of Philips LED flash components – and by “lots” we mean “tens of millions” – while DigiTimes says Apple has also been shopping for 5 megapixel cameras.

The iPhone 4G will support 4G mobile phone networks

This one’s been kicking around for a while, but we really don’t see it happening. It’s hard enough getting networks to deliver decent 3G coverage; 4G is a long way off yet.
